Want to know the difference between Lens Diameter and Graphic Diameter?

Jun 27,2024 | Mislens

Recently, we have seen some customers' feedback that the lenses do not fit properly and feel a bit small or look a little big, most of these reasons are that customers are not clear about how to pick the right lenses for them to wear. So the question is, what is lens diameter? What is Graphic Diameter and how does it affect lens selection and wearability?

1. What is lens diameter?

The diameter of a contact lens is the actual diameter of the lens, including the clear edge and the tinted portion, which is the diameter of the entire lens. Generally speaking, the common lens diameters are 14.0mm, 14.2mm, and 14.5mm, with a few 15.0mm and 22mm for cosplay scenes.

2. What is Graphic Diameter?

Graphic Diameter refers to the diameter of the colored portion of a colored contact lens. In general, the minimum Graphic/tinting diameter is about 13.8mm, and the maximum is not more than the lens diameter size. Different tinted color contact lenses are often worn on the eyes and can be seen to be very different.

3. What is the difference between Tinted Diameter and Diameter?

Lens diameter has very little effect on wearability. Still, Graphic Diameter affects the size of the pupil, and lenses with a large Graphic Diameter appear to have a dilated pupil effect after wear. However, the ratio of the white of the eye to the eyeball is more harmonious and good-looking when the ratio is 1:2:1.

Therefore, it is recommended that you do not blindly pursue contact lenses with large diameters and coloring. If your eyes are small and you still wear large-diameter contact lenses it will look a bit strange.
